Starting January 21, 2026 you will write an email in the TOEFL writing section. You will have seven minutes to read the instructions and write the email.

You recently ordered a pair of wireless headphones from an online electronics store called TechWorld. The package arrived yesterday, but when you opened it, you found a different, cheaper model than the one you selected on the website. You have not used the headphones yet and still have all the original packaging.
Write an email to TechWorld’s customer service department. In your email, do the following:
- Clearly explain the problem, including what you ordered, what you received, and when the package arrived.
- Ask how they will resolve the issue, and whether there will be any additional cost to you.
- Request a specific timeline for when you can expect a reply and a solution.
Sample Answer
To Whom it May Concern,
I’m writing because of a problem I recently experienced after ordering a pair of wireless headphones from your website. The problem is that while I ordered and paid for a pair of your top of the line WX-2000 headphones, the package I received yesterday contained a pair of cheaper Z2-500 headphones. Could you let me know how you will take care of this problem? Moreover, please let me know if I will be required to pay any fees or costs to get the proper headphones. If it matters, please note that I have not used the headphones, and I have kept the original invoice and packaging. It would be really great if you could let me know how long it will take you to reply to this message, and how long it will likely take for you to resolve this problem for me.
Thanks for your time,
Chuck Alderman
