The Question:
“Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Students should be involved in decisions about how universities set their budgets.”
Sample Answer:
Personally, I don’t think students should make decisions about how universities set their budgets. First of all, students only attend universities for a short period of time. As a result, they might decide to spend money on programs that provide immediate benefits, instead of on programs that are advantageous over the long run. For instance, students might want to spend a ton of money on sports teams instead of constructing buildings that can be used for many decades. Secondly, students don’t have much training in terms of academic administration and management. Accordingly, they might make decisions that aren’t in the best interest of their school. For instance, they might accidentally overpay when hiring professors or signing contracts with suppliers.
